Mike Casil: Press

Mike Casil's "Ripe for Exploits" shows that he is ripe with talent. He has the ability to craft and construct textured electronica that avoids sounding Swisscheesed diluted in its production but by the same token doesn't sound too dense or oppressive. Casil fills the spaces well but keeps things flowing and with just the right weight. The textures he builds in his compositions is uber grooveworthy and mightily infectious. On top of his general composition skill is the fact that he is able to flow from one style to another thoughout the course of his cd while not deteriorating into disjointedness. From edgy and trippy techno that could burn up a dance floor to tweaked out methhead nervousness, from funked out hooked-out grooves to acidy danceablenss, from drum-and-bass to breakbeats, and even a bit of industrial, Mike Casil is the kind of thing you want to hear coming out of the "bedroom" DJ scene. There are a lot of folks out there who don't know how to use their computer music programs. Mike Casil does. I mean, I don't know exactly what software, equipment, etc. he employs, but he knows how to use them. Kudos. You can find him at cdbaby.com
Mike Casil's "Lost Wonders" is designed for those who want a bit of an eclectic journey through electronica. Not one to confine himself to one particular genre, Casil here guides the listener through a variety of styles-while still maintaining artistic uniformity. Romping across a broad soundscape-psychedelic grooves, breaks, electro, trance, spacey dance, drum and bass/hip-hop fusion (of sorts), even a track that sounds like it came from the synth soundtrack to an 80's film-Casil offers a fascinating peek into the way he thinks creatively. Obviously, he is in love with electronica and wants to share that love with others. He wants to see what kind of mind fascination can be achieved with electronic music and he proceeds to accomplish it in a variety of stylistic fashions. Four stars.
